Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 PANGKALAN BUN/ KUMAI/ RIMBA LODGE (L, D)
Arrival in Pangkalan Bun, met and transferred by airport taxi to Kumai boat stage, about 20 minutes drive. Then, board on “Klotok”; is a traditional motorized wooden boat across Kumai bay toward Sekonyer River that will lead you to Rimba Lodge, your accommodation on the edge of Tanjung Putting National Park. Boating upstream and you will notice varied vegetation along the riverside from Nipah/ Mangrove dominating the coastal forest to the evergreen plants of the peat swamp and dry land forest. Tanjung Putting National Park covering an area of more than 415.000 hectares and hosts the world most diverse flora and fauna, including the famous Orangutan. A stop will be made at Tanjung Harapan to arrange travel permit to the National Park. After about 2 hours riding on the Sekonyer we will arrive at Rimba Lodge, is a forest lodge with a group of long tailed macaques living on the trees around its 35 rooms, built on stilts, and all constructed from ironwood. Check-in at the lodge and enjoy afternoon observing the Proboscis Monkeys, being the endemic of Borneo. They usually return to the trees along the riverbank for their night rest.
Day 2 RIMBA LODGE/ TOURING CAMP LEAKY (B, L, D)
Early morning after breakfast boating on the Sekonyer river for 2 hours beyond Rimba Lodge to Camp Leaky the old and famous research and rehabilitation center for Orangutan. Take a nice trip on the river of Tropical rain forest in the middle of no where and feel the spirit of jungle concert made by various kind of insect along the river, searching for fresh water crocodiles that sometimes (with luck) appear on the surface or lay on the log. Arrival at Camp Leaky exploring around the camp for Orangutan and proceed by trekking around the area through tropical rain forest to search for wild Orangutan and other monkeys (Gibbon, Red monkeys, macaque, birds and other creatures of the area). Back to the boat for lunch, and after lunch join with the ranger to the feeding platform for the afternoon feeding. Afterwards, return to the lodge.
Day 3 RIMBA LODGE/ TOURING PONDOK TANGGUI AND REFORESTATION PROJECT (B, L, D)
About an hour boat ride to Pondok Tanggui, the second rehabilitation center. Trek through the jungle for the morning feeding of the baby and juvenile orangutans. Next, we take you to Pesalat Reforestation Project, where learn about how concerned citizens are trying to save the jungles from the destruction. Lunch onboard the boat. Another visit to Tanjung Harapan to learn about settlement and way of life of the Malayan and Semi Dayak living in the outside border of the National Park. Stay overnight at Blue Kecubung Hotel (best available in the area) in Pangkalan Bun.
Day 4 PANGKALAN BUN/ BOKONSU VILLAGE (B, L, D)
After breakfast travel with a speedboat to Lamandau River, about 5 hours, take a short-cut through several small rivulets. Afternoon arrive at Bokonsu village, explore the village for people way of life, then enjoy traditional “Bagondang” or “Horn Bill Dance, is a welcome dance performed by the villagers. Overnight at villager’s longhouse
Day 5 BOKONSU VILLAGE/ TABINBINI VILLAGE (Trekking to the holy Dayak Hill) (B, L, D)
Continue explore to Tapinbini village, about 20 minutes by speedboat, then hike the Balao Hill, walk through jungle while learn about various native plants, many of those having curative affects but be cautious with the poisonous ones. Learn also from your guide how they do identification from the smell or eat the edible ones. Next, visit Batu Batongkat, a huge stone which is in the Dayak’s belief, if you put a stick below the stone and say your wishes will be blessed and granted. Proceed to Tapinbini, if you wish you may enjoy a refreshing soak in the river before spent the afternoon being with the local to learn about their culture and hear story about their head-hunting culture. Overnight at the villager’s house.
Day 6 TAPINBINI/ PANGKALAN BUN (B, L, D)
After breakfast, boat trip back to Pangkalan Bun. Overnight in Pangkalan Bun
Day 7 PANGKALAN BUN/ OUT (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight leaving Pangkalan Bun to the onward destination.
